Spencerport defeated Fairport 26-21 Wednesday night in a matchup of two teams ranked in the top five of the large school state rankings. John Troina at 160 pounds produced a 7-5 win over Adam Onderdonk for the top-ranked Spencerport Rangers, who are two-time defending state champions. Troina's victory came with the Red Raiders ahead 15-11 in the Fairport gymnasium, and was the first of four consecutive wins by Spencerport wrestlers. Dave Foley gave fourth-ranked Fairport its four-point lead with a pin in 2 minutes, 23 seconds.
